DISCOVERING WILDLIFE PROGRAM – SUMMER 2015

A fascinating playground for children in the Zoo area in 29/3 Park is held on every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from June to August yearly.

Every summer, the kids start to look forward to Saturday and Sunday afternoon to meet the “brothers and sisters” come from GreenViet Center, have a chance to color and play interesting games related to Vietnam wildlife animals.

The program was initiated in the summer of 2013, firstly was cooperation between GreenViet and Da Nang Green Park Company, which aimed to encourage children to learn and explore the wildlife nature, especially the animals living in the 29/3 Park zoo’s area. During the past 3 years (2013-2015), our program has been creating a chance for the kids to learn and explore through many fun activities such as coloring, painting the wild animals they know through books and movies, identifying animals by pictures, or having the volunteers from GreenViet Center introduce the zoo area, where each cage has an interesting story about wild animals in Vietnam. Especially, every afternoon one volunteer would host an outdoor activity follow a special topic in order to enhance knowledge and raise awareness for the children, for example, “How to eat like a red-shanked douc” is a game to recognize special food types of this beautiful primates in Son Tra, or “I learn to be an animal keeper” is a play-role game to not only learn different foods for each wildlife species but also understand the hard work of the specialists who are working in the Zoo area.

 

Discovering Wildlife Program – Summer 2015

In 2015, 14 programs have been held on weekend afternoon, attracted nearly 500 children and parents to participate in. All programs were organized totally free of charge thanks to the effective and professional supports from all the GreenViet volunteers. After being trained, 28 volunteers from different high schools, colleges, and universities in Da Nang were capable of coordinating all the activities on their own.

Wishing to create more healthy playgrounds for kids during the summer, GreenViet Center and Da Nang GreenPark Company commit to continue to organize these chargeless activities in the next summers.
