PHOTO EXHIBITION: “RED-SHANKED DOUC LANGUR IN SON TRA: BEHAVIOR AND HABITAT”
Danang, May 17th, 2016, a photo exhibition to promote the beauty of the Red-shanked douc in Son Tra Peninsula will be organized within a week at Da Nang General Science Library in order to call for protecting this species in Son Tra.
The Red-shanked douc langur has been called as a queen of primates with 5 colors. Son Tra Peninsula of Da Nang City has been awarded the highest density population of the Red-shanked douc langur with about 300 individuals in 43,000 hectares. That is the reason why the Son Tra doucs have become the motivation for Da Nang photographers for a few years. Moreover, photographers who interested in wildlife from other provinces such as Ho Chi Minh City also contributed to taking pictures of the doucs in Son Tra.
Aim to celebrate the World Biodiversity Day on May 22nd, in the context of Vietnamese primates are facing an increasing risk of extinction, especially on “Workshop on Primate Conservation Action Plan in Viet Nam” on March 18th, 2016, all scientists have agreed to raise the endangered situation of the Red-shanked douc langur from EN-Endangered into CR-Critical endangered; a photo exhibition about the Red-shanked douc langur in Da Nang City will be organized from May 17th to 22nd with the contribution of famous wildlife photographers including Nguyen Truong Sinh, Thai Hong Ky, Hoang Ha, Phan Ngoc Hoi, Phung Duc Dung, Dang Thu Thuy, etc. in order to raise awareness of local people about conserving the Red-shanked douc langur in Son Tra peninsula, with strong messages “Let’s save the Red-shanked douc langur in Son Tra”, “Red-shanked douc in Son Tra is our treasure”, “Save the Son Tra doucs for our future generations”.
The “Red-shanked douc langur in Son Tra: Behavior and Habitat” exhibition is cooperated organized by Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Union of Literature and Arts Association, Photography Arts Association, Department of Environmental Protection, GreenViet Biodiversity Conservation Centre, Library of General Sciences, and Wildlife Photographer Nguyen Truong Sinh. The exhibition attracts more than 1,000 visitors from District Youth Union in Thuan Phuoc ward, Tho Quang ward and students of Tran Quy Cap secondary school, Ly Tu Trong secondary school, Nguyen Tri Phuong primary school, and other environmental clubs and groups in Da Nang city.
Through the “Red-shanked douc langur in Son Tra: Behavior and Habitat” exhibition, the beauty of the Red-shanked douc langur in Son Tra peninsula will be introduced to visitors in three exhibited areas: (1) Social behavior of the Red-shanked douc langur in Son Tra; (2) Feeding ecology of the Red-shanked douc langur in Son Tra; and (3) Locomotion and habitat of the Red-shanked douc langur in Son Tra. Besides, visitors will have opportunities to study the Red-shanked douc langur in over the world, some threats to Son Tra doucs, and some conservation activities in Son Tra peninsula.
The “Red-shanked douc langur in Son Tra: Behavior and Habitat” exhibition is an activity in series of campaigns in Danang city in 2016 towards promoting the Red-shanked douc langur to become the biodiversity icon of Da Nang city.
